Residency Requirement
It is a requirement that Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission employees are legal residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as per Commission Policy. You will be required to evidence that fact at appropriate times.
Union Fair Share Reduction
As a prospective employee of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, you should be aware that most positions are in a bargaining unit represented by the Teamsters. In you are employed, Act 84 of 1988 and the collective bargaining agreement between the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and the Teamsters mandate that the Commission deduct a "fair share fee" from your pay even if you elect not to join the Union. The amount of the "fair share fee" is determined by the Union. A notice from the union regarding the fee and how it is established will be sent to you.
Secondary Employment
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has a Secondary Employment Policy to ensure that employees' activities away from the job do not adversely affect their ability to satisfy their obligations as employees of the Commission or in any way compromise its interests or reputation. Prior approval of outside employment is required.

Unless covered by a collective bargaining agreement, all employees are considered to be at-will employees.
In applying for a position with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, I understand that as a condition of determining my qualifications for the position applied for, the Commission will request job performance information from any previous employer listed on my application or resume, contact personal references provided, conduct a background check of my motor vehicle record if the position applied for requires driving duties and take such steps as the Commission deems necessary to validate any other statement or assertion made on my application or resume.

A: Administrative Offices
Normal hours of operation are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
M: Maintenance Operations (Field)
Normal hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Friday, with the exception of a few positions that work 3 shifts (24/7). During winter shifting (Nov. through Mar.), field maintenance employees work 3 shifts (24/7).
F: Fare Collection Operations (Field)
Full-time toll collectors work a 40-hour week based on a 7-day schedule (24/7) in various shifts. Shifts are selected annually by seniority; with 1 weekend off in a 28-day work schedule.
FS: Fare Collection Operations - Supplemental (Field)
Supplemental toll collectors are expected to be available for work on various shifts (24/7) and are not guaranteed a 40-hour workweek.
FD: Fare Collection Operations - District Office (Field)
Fare Collection District Office normal hours of operation are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
OM: Operations Center - Management
Duty officers work 84 hours in a 2-week time period (24/7).
OU: Operations Center - Union
Radio operators work a 40-hour week on a 7-day schedule on various shifts (24/7); with 1 weekend off every 4 weeks. Shifts are selected annually by seniority.
E: Engineering
Employees in the administrative offices follow the normal hours of operation of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
EF: Engineering (Field)
Schedule is based on operational needs per active construction project. Employees work 8- or 10-hour shifts with 2 consecutive days off (not necessarily Saturday and Sunday).
